Minister Blair marks the completion of new Health Services Centre at CFB North Bay

News release

October 20, 2023 – North Bay, ON – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Today, the Honourable Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence, officially marked the completion of the new $22 million Health Services Centre at 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Base North Bay. This facility provides our personnel with faster, higher quality care, increasing their availability for operations.

This state-of-the-art 2,100 m2 Health Services Centre consolidates all medical, dental, and mental health services at the Wing into one centrally located facility. It replaces the old Health Care Centre built in the 1960s as a barrack block, which the Wing has outgrown given the increasing number of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members in North Bay.

Previously, 22 Wing North Bay’s aging health services facilities were located at several locations throughout the base, limiting easy access to a wide range of medical services needed by our personnel. Now in one location, this modern medical facility will provide care by civilian and military doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, medical technicians, mental health professionals, dentists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, and administrative staff.

This project sustained approximately 50 jobs during the construction phase, and was built to LEED Silver standards, which will contribute to the federal government’s target of being carbon neutral by 2050. National Defence has reduced greenhouse gas emissions from its buildings and non-military vehicles by 35.9% across Canada, compared with 2005 levels.

As highlighted in Canada’s Defence Policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, the Government of Canada is committed to providing our CAF members with modern and green facilities to support their health and wellbeing.
