Sexual Assault Charge laid against Vice-Admiral Haydn Edmundson

On December 7, 2021, the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (CFNIS) laid the following charges against Vice-Admiral Haydn Edmundson:

• Sexual assault contrary to section 271 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
• Indecent acts contrary to section 173(1) of the Criminal Code.

The decision by the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal (CFPM) to retain this investigation was taken in due regard to the parameters outlined by Justice Arbour where she stated, “the CFPM should transfer to civilian police forces all allegations of sexual offences, including allegations currently under investigation by the CFNIS unless such investigation is near completion”. In this particular case, the investigation was near completion.

As the matter is now proceeding through the civilian justice system no further information can be released at this time.
