News Release

January 17, 2018 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan today welcomed the reappointment of the interim Chairperson and three new appointments to the Military Grievances External Review Committee (MGERC). The reappointment and appointments include:

  • Caroline Maynard – Interim Chairperson (full-time) for a term of three months, effective January 4, 2018;
  • Dominic McAlea – Vice Chairperson (full-time) for a term of four years;
  • Nina Frid – Member (full-time) for a term of four years; and
  • Eric Strong – Member (part-time) for a term of three years.

The member appointments will come into effect on various dates over the coming months.

MGERC, formerly the Canadian Forces Grievance Board, reviews military grievances and provides findings and recommendations to the Chief of the Defence Staff and the Canadian Armed Forces member who submitted the grievance. The Committee is an administrative tribunal independent from the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence and, as such, plays a unique role within the military grievance process.
