Sergeant Yves Truchon, a member of the Canadian Detachment Joint Base Lewis-McChord at NORAD’s Western Air Defense Sector, was recently recognized by the Washington State National Guard as Honor Guard Member of the Year for 2016.

This is the second year in a row he has received the honour. As a member of the Honor Guard, Sergeant Truchon was involved in many functions, including half-staff ceremonies for fallen veterans (lowering a flag to half staff during a military funeral), retirement ceremonies, and Veterans Day ceremonies. Sergeant Truchon was required to learn U.S. drill and to provide drill lectures to Airmen students enrolled in the United States Air Force course that is the equivalent of the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Leadership Qualification.

For his outstanding performance, Sergeant Truchon will also receive the Washington State Achievement Medal.
