On March 6, 2017, General Jonathan Vance, Chief of the Defence Staff, announced that Lieutenant-General Alain Parent, a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, will assume the position of acting Vice Chief of the Defence Staff from Vice-Admiral Ron Lloyd as of May 30, 2017.
This change will enable Vice-Admiral Lloyd to return to the significant task of leading the Royal Canadian Navy full-time.
Lieutenant-General Parent joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1979 and completed pilot training in 1985. He amassed more than 4,900 flying hours on the Kiowa, Twin Huey and Griffon helicopters. He has served in operational and staff positions, including deputy commander of NORAD and, most recently, deputy commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples.
“I would like to thank Vice-Admiral Lloyd for his outstanding work in filling a critical role to the institution during a demanding time and I look forward to working with Lieutenant-General Parent,” said General Vance. ““Lieutenant-General Parent's replacement as deputy commander, Allied Joint Forces Command Naples, will be announced in the near future.”
