Update to the CAF High School Education Initiative: The Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) Replaces the GED Program
September 3, 2024 – Defence Stories
The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) High School Education Initiative (HSEI), launched in April 2023, emphasizes the importance of obtaining a high school diploma within the first five years of service. HSEI outlines policies, regulations, and the reimbursement process for educational upgrading and lists available adult education programs across provinces and territories.
Previously, the General Education Development (GED) high school equivalency program was offered in most provinces and territories. However, as of May 3, 2024, the GED program has been replaced by the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC).
The CAEC is a high-quality, Canadian-made education credential, available in both English and French, covering Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science. It is tailored to meet the needs of Canadian adults and reflects diverse cultures and perspectives.
The CAEC is designed for adults who lack a high school diploma but need an education credential to access new educational, training, or employment opportunities. Successful CAEC candidates will receive a Canadian High School Equivalency Certificate, like the GED.
