Authentication process for intelligence provider Janes is changing on September 18
September 18, 2023 – Defence Stories
Please make note that DND’s Open Source intelligence provider, Janes, is shifting the mode of authentication for access to a more secure and customizable environment as of September 18, 2023.
Current authentication process:
At present, users access Janes through either their own personal account (username/password) or through the shared intranet login which is authenticated via IP address.
What is changing:
Janes is removing the insecure authentication via IP and is establishing Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication. The SSO authentication will be automatically released on the 18th of September. Users will login by accessing customer.janes.com and enter in your @ecn.forces.gc.ca email (note that your standard @forces.gc.ca email for communication will not be valid for this process). The first login attempt will provide a back-end token of authentication to verify your email and validity as a DND employee; from there you will be prompted to login once more which will generate your personal account. Once your personal account is created, all future logins will only require entry of the registered email address for verification.
This authentication provides customization to individual accounts including saved searches, bookmarking equipment and country profiles, pulling RSS feed data, and more.
Please reach out to our Janes Customer Success Manager, Cornelius Blaga (Cornelius.blaga@janes.com), for any questions regarding this change or additional inquiries about this resource.
