Public Service Employees: Are you having a baby or adopting a child?
October 04, 2022 - Defence Stories
Having a baby or adopting a child is an exciting event and it is never too early to start planning for their arrival. The DND HR Team is here to support you. We offer consultations to assist you in preparing for the new addition to your family.
As financial planning plays a key role in your preparation, it’s important to be aware of benefits and top up allowances that you are entitled to while you are on leave without pay. You must start planning at least 12 weeks ahead of your expected leave date since you will not have access to the DND network (DWAN) while you are away.
The Maternity/parental leave without pay toolkit (accessible only on the National Defence network) provides you with comprehensive information such as; tips to prepare for your leave, steps to obtain your desired medical coverage, information to acquire your Employment Insurance or Québec Parental Insurance Plan benefits and it ensures a successful reintegration back into the workplace, including reinitiating your pay.
We invite you to review the toolkit on the HR-Civ intranet website (accessible only on the National Defence network) or the HR Go RH app. The toolkit contains important tools and information, including the new Maternity and parental leave video series (accessible only on the National Defence network) which can help guide you through the planning process and ensure you get the appropriate leave.
We are here to help you. For questions about HR, access HR Connect RH online (accessible only on the National Defence network) or by calling 1-833-747-6363 (for Defence Team use only) to book a consultation with a Compensation agent anytime, even when you are on leave.
