Understanding your Pay Stubs
March 8, 2022 - Defence Stories
You can access your pay stubs using a D-PKI card online in the following ways:
- Compensation Web Application (CWA) select Pay stubs and archived tax slips
- Phoenix: select Main menu / Self service / Payroll and compensation / View paycheque
- MyGCPay stub
The CWA includes pay stubs prior to the Phoenix implementation. It also includes more detailed information about your pay such as:
- Earning details for overtime
- Breakdown of retroactive payments
- Breakdown of leave without pay periods
Note: Your earnings and deductions amounts are the same on the CWA pay stub as they are in Phoenix. However, differences between CWA terminology and Phoenix terminology affects how these amounts appear on each pay stub.
The MyGCPay stub includes more detailed information and features, such as:
- Three tabs to separate information on earnings, taxes, and deductions;
- The department or agency that is issuing the pay;
- A deductions tab with three sections that identify the employer deduction contributions, voluntary deductions, and other deductions;
- Capability of a printable PDF version of the pay stub;
- Definitions of terms and acronyms will be available; and
- Only the last 3 PRI digits will be visible on the printable version of the pay stub.
Visit PSPC’s How to Read Your Pay Stub webpage for more information, including a list of commonly used numeric pay codes, sample pay stubs and information on how your pay stubs compare. We also encourage you to take the course – Demystifying your Pay Stub on GCcampus to learn more about your pay stubs.
For employees on leave without pay (LWOP) and who don’t have access to the DND network, you can contact the Client Contact Centre (CCC) to have a pay stub mailed to you or you can retrieve an electronic pay stub through epost Connect from Canada post. The CCC can provide additional instructions on this option.
