January 17, 2022 - Defence Stories
The Defence Team Mentoring Program (accessible only on the National Defence network) offers various opportunities to help you expand your network, knowledge and perspectives. During #MentoringMonth we wanted to share important details about the virtual mentoring program.
As a mentor, your role is vital. Being a role model, motivator, and guide to a mentee will gives you the chance to learn and collaborate. As a mentee, you can acquire new skills, and competencies that will allow you to grow professionally, while building connections in a fun and engaging environment!
There are a variety of mentorship styles readily available to you. Finding the one that’ll fit your needs is important. To get a better understanding, we have listed each mentorship style below:
- Traditional Mentoring: Benefit from expertise offered by an experienced colleague;
- Reverse Mentoring: Gain valuable perspectives from individuals with a background differentiated from yours;
- Peer Mentoring: Advance your organizational and career knowledge by connecting with a peer;
- Community Mentoring: Expand your awareness of a functional community (ENG, FI, EC, PG etc.) outside of your own, from an experienced colleague;
- Official Language Mentoring: Improve or, maintain oral proficiency in your second official language (OL) from a fluent colleague!
Become a mentor, mentee, or both by registering at the Defence Team Mentoring Program website (accessible only on the National Defence network). If you have questions, read the frequently asked questions (accessible only on the National Defence network) or contact the Program Advisor.
