Reminder – Action Required – Complete your vaccine attestation now

October 21, 2021 - Defence Stories

Defence Team,

A reminder that all military and civilian Defence Team members are required to complete a COVID-19 vaccine attestation by October 29, 2021, regardless of their vaccination status. Following last week’s message to staff, everyone across DND/CAF now has access to do so.

Please complete your vaccine attestation as soon as possible.

If you are fully vaccinated

CAF members

Simply complete your attestation using MCS – Monitor MASS. CAF members who do not have access to MCS – Monitor MASS, will provide to their supervisor written and signed attestation in paper format, which the supervisor will then ensure is properly entered into MCS – Monitor MASS.

DND public service employees

Simply complete your attestation in the Government of Canada’s Vaccine Attestation Tracking System (GC-VATS) (Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome are the recommended browsers) before October 29. It should only take a few minutes to complete.

If you do not have the necessary IT assets (e.g. active PKI Card) to access the GC-VATS system and require an alternative paper-based attestation method, please complete the COVID-19 Vaccination Attestation Form (accessible only via the DWAN) and submit to your manager. Your manager will then review the form to ensure it is complete and submit it to P-OTG.VaccineAttest@intern.mil.ca for tracking and retention. Please consult the October 15 message for further details on the alternative paper-based attestation method.

If you are partially vaccinated:

If you are partially vaccinated, we advise you to book your next vaccination appointment as soon as possible.

CAF members:

CAF members who become partially vaccinated (single dose) will update their vaccination attestation in MCS – Monitor MASS and will have 10 weeks to receive their second dose in order to comply with the CDS Directive on CAF COVID-19 Vaccination.

DND public service employees:

Employees who have received one dose of a vaccine can now attest to their partially-vaccinated status in GC-VATS. If you have had one dose and are not yet fully-vaccinated you are required to advise your manager of the date of your first dose right away. You have until October 29 to complete your attestation.

If you are not vaccinated

8 out of 10 Canadians over age 12 are fully vaccinated. If you are not already fully vaccinated, you are advised to book your appointment as soon as possible.

CAF members

Regardless of your vaccination status, you must complete an attestation in MCS – Monitor MASS by October 29. CAF members unwilling to comply with the CDS Directive on CAF COVID-19 Vaccination by November 15 may be subject to remedial or alternative administrative measures. In future, additional measures for non-compliance with the Directive, such as members being placed on leave without pay, may be implemented.

DND public service employees

Regardless of your vaccination status, you must complete an attestation in GC-VATS by October 29. If you do not attest to your vaccination status, or are unwilling to be vaccinated, you will be placed on administrative leave without pay as early as November 15.

You have an obligation to provide a true attestation. Making a false statement would constitute a breach of the Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination. All attestation information is subject to verification and audit.

The vast majority of Canadians are eligible to receive the vaccine, however there are some exceptions. Please consult the October 15 message for information on what to do if you are unable to be vaccinated based on a certified medical contraindication, religion, or another prohibited ground for discrimination as defined under the Canadian Human Rights Act.
