Latin American Heritage Month (LAHM)

October 25, 2021 - Defence Stories

Defence Team:

I am thrilled to mark the third annual Latin American Heritage Month (LAHM) with the Defence Team. For Canadians and for the entire Defence Team this is the perfect time to showcase the richness and vitality of Latin American cultures and heritage while reflecting on the contributions the Latin American community have made to the defence of our country, at home and abroad, dating all the way back to the First World War.

I encourage members of our team to attend planned events in their area that will celebrate features of Latin American culture. Though many events remain virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, stay tuned for details on the various local activities taking place virtually and in-person. Together, I ask that we celebrate the many ways the Latin American community has helped make Canada the welcoming, inclusive and prosperous country we know today.

I will celebrate this year’s LAHM by reflecting on the significant contributions that the Latin American community has made to the social, economic, political and cultural fabric of Canada. LAHM is also an opportunity to support efforts to build a Defence Team that better reflects the society it serves and to break down barriers that may prevent members from delivering their best at home and abroad. Inclusion is a source of strength and flexibility within the Defence Team and is imperative to the CAF’s operational effectiveness.

We celebrate and thank the Latin American community within the Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces for their service to Canada and the Defence Team.
