*UPDATE* Federal Statutory Holiday: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
September 10, 2021 - Defence Stories
As you may be aware, legislation was recently passed to make September 30 a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day provides an opportunity for Defence Team members, and all Canadians, to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools. This may present itself as a day of quiet reflection or participation in a community event.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will become a designated paid holiday and will allow Defence Team members to observe and participate in this important day starting September 2021.
Because this is a federal statutory holiday, there is no need for Defence Team members to take action and request leave. If leave has been previously requested/approved for September 30, the request must be amended or cancelled in order to have the leave credits returned.
If you have any questions, CAF members can consult CANFORGEN 127/21 (accessible only on the National Defence network), while DND employees can contact HR Connect RH online (accessible only on the National Defence network).
