Defence Team sub-delegated managers: New mandatory training on unconscious bias

July 19, 2021 - Defence Stories

The Clerk of the Privy Council recently issued a Call to Action on anti-racism, equity and inclusion in the Federal Public Service. As a manager responsible for recruitment and staffing at DND, we are calling on you to help work towards an environment that is diverse, collaborative, inclusive and respectful. This means that we need to collectively go above simply being equipped with knowledge and tools, but to taking meaningful actions.

DND is continuing to address systemic barriers that currently exist in the staffing system. One of the action items is for all sub-delegated managers to complete the new mandatory training on Unconscious Bias. There are four on-line courses offered by the Canada School of Public Service (www.csps-efpc.gc.ca) that have been endorsed for implementation at DND:

Please note: The completion of this training is necessary in order to continue to fulfill your role as a staffing sub-delegated manager. Monitoring and tracking of course completion rates will begin on June 30th 2021 for civilian sub-delegated managers and on September 30th 2021 for sub-delegated military managers.

The Canada School of Public Service has granted CAF personnel access to their courses, accounts have been and continue to be created. If you have not received your login information, please contact CSPS.

Defence Team hiring managers are encouraged to take advantage of the many other learning opportunities that the CSPS offers in its comprehensive training tool kit that can support you in developing inclusive leadership, as well as an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.

If you have any questions, please contact the Anti-Racism Staffing Taskforce at ARST-GTDA@forces.gc.ca
