The Defence Team celebrates Canada's Health Workplace Month, October 1 - 31, 2020

Whether it was participating in a virtual Zumba session with colleagues, whipping up a healthy smoothie, or taking-in the virtual Health and Wellness Fair, Defence Team members celebrated Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month (CHWM) in lots of different, and virtual, ways.

The month was kicked-off with a message from our three Mental Health Co-Champions: Deputy Minister Jody Thomas; Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff Lieutenant-General Michael Rouleau: and Federal Dockyard Trades and Labour Council East President Jerry Ryan. They outlined their vision of what a healthy workplace means to them and encouraging Defence Team members to participate in the month long campaign.

Throughout October, Defence Team members were encouraged to participate in digital activities on offer, such as: virtual Zumba classes; Halloween arts and crafts time; cooking tips on #foodiefridays; and fun events on the National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces social media accounts.

A wide range of online learning opportunities were also available through the “Thriving in the Workplace” article series. This included various health and wellness themed webinars, the Defence Team Virtual Health and Wellness Fair, and the Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month toolkit.

If you haven’t had a chance, we encourage you to watch Mission: Workplace Well-Being” a short video created to highlight how Defence Team Senior Leaders, stationed from coast-to-coast and around the globe, are helping to contribute to a healthy workplace across Defence.

Although we are closing the book on this year’s CHWM, we are already looking forward to next year, and we encourage you to use the tools, resources, and tips received through the action packed month and adopt them throughout the year!.

In the meantime, keep safe and healthy at home and in your community!
