October 23: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas

October 27, 2020 - Defence Stories

Friday update: Have you reviewed the consolidated DM/CDS Directive on COVID-19? It’s now online in full. Please read it over, ideally more than once: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/corporate/policies-standards/cds-dm-directive-fall-2020-posture.html

Updated guidance from TBS/OCHRO on “699 Leave” takes effect 9 November. We’ll be sharing more with managers about how to take a case-by-case approach, first by exploring alternate and flexible-work options and other paid leave-types: https://www.canada.ca/en/government/publicservice/covid-19/employee-illness-leave.html

While we don’t yet know how long this resurgence will last, we do know our personal vigilance around public health advice can help protect our families, our colleagues and our wider communities.

Got questions? Keep asking! Your go-to should be your supervisor (and that applies up-to-and-including *my* direct reports). You can also use the Ask Anything inbox: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/maple-leaf/defence/2020/06/defence-team-send-us-your-questions-about-resuming-work.html

All managers encounter situations when a staff member asks for help and we’re not sure what to do. It’s ok not to have all answers immediately. It’s *not* ok to dismiss concerns without listening respectfully and seeking guidance from experts.

The COVID-19 environment adds a ton of pressure to daily life, and our #DefenceTeam jobs aren’t mellow at the best of times. Leadership, empathy and kindness matter more than ever. So be kind. Be respectful. And #washyourhands & #wearamask
