The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Canadian Forces Member Assistance Program (CFMAP) are operating during the COVID-19 crisis

May 6, 2020 - Defence Stories

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and the Canadian Forces Member Assistance Program (CFMAP) are here to help civilian employees and CAF personnel, veterans and their families cope with professional or personal challenges that may be impacting their health and well-being.

Many of us are working with new realities and various types of stressors during this pandemic and everyone is managing these challenges in different ways with atypical levels of stress and anxiety. The situation we are facing is unprecedented, and our coping mechanisms may vary greatly based on our personal situation and circumstances. EAP and CFMAP are here to help.

Help for Department of National Defence (DND) civilian employees

This service is available 24/7, 365 days a year, by calling 1-800-268-7708 or 1-800-567-5803 (hearing impaired). Anyone experiencing a mental health emergency should call the above 24/7 numbers: or;

Talk to an EAP team member. Peer referral agents are trained individuals who offer quality peer support in times of needs. They are able to listen, discuss options you might find helpful, and refer you to appropriate resources and services in your region. There are several peer referral agents who are available immediately by phone or email if someone needs their help and support.

There are two ways to contact one of your regional EAP referral agent:

  1. Contact HR Connect at 1-833-RHR-MDND (1-833-747-6363) where you will be connected with a readily available agent from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Mon to Fri; or
  2. Contact the EAP Corporate Office

A referral agent will contact you within 24 hours. Please note that the corporate office can be accessed from a personal computer or device.

Help for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, veterans and their families

The Canadian Forces Member Assistance Program (CFMAP) is a partnership between the Department of National Defence and Health Canada's Emergency Preparedness and Occupational Health Directorate Employee Assistance Services (EAS). The CFMAP offers confidential, voluntary, short term counselling to assist with resolving many of today's stresses at home and in the work place.

Personnel of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Veterans, and their families can access free, confidential counseling, 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-268-7708 or TDD 1-800-567-5803. We encourage CAF members, Veterans, and their families to leverage these resources, check-in and connect with others, and ensure they are prioritizing their well-being.
