Transcript

Hello, my name is Seyi Okuribido-Malcolm. I’m the director of National Defence’s Anti-Racism Secretariat and I’m here to take the 60 Seconds challenge.

I have my bowl along with my questions.

“What role does the Anti-Racism Secretariat play in Defence?”

We’re here to shine a light on systemic barriers and provide advice on how to address them.

“What does anti-racism work mean to you?”

It means being active in dismantling barriers that traditionally harm indigenous, black and racialized people.

“Name something anyone can do to make the world more inclusive?”

Check your biases. Check your actions. Are they inclusive or exclusionary? Then ask yourself how and why.

“What always puts a smile on your face?”

Spending time with my family and friends.

“How do you practise self-care?”

I take Seyi Days.

“Where is your happy place?”

Sleeping in my hammock.

“What are words to live by?”

The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are, so never forget it.

That’s it.
