On Sept. 20, Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg hosted the highly anticipated Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) Plane Pull, a unique event that brings together teams for a good cause.

Among the standout competitors was the Joint Engineer team, named the "Eager Beaver," which comprised 25 engineers from Real Property Operations Detachment (RPOD) Winnipeg, 17 Mission Support Squadron Construction Engineer (CE) Flight, and 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarter A4 CE.

The Eager Beaver team took to the tarmac with enthusiasm and determination, ready to tackle the challenge of pulling aircraft and vehicles that tested their physical strength and collaborative spirit. The event is about competition and raising funds for charitable initiatives, making it a meaningful occasion for all participants.

The team's preparation paid off. They won the CT‑142 Dash‑8 pull, completing the challenge in an impressive 10.7 seconds. This remarkable feat showcased their strategic approach to teamwork and co‑ordination, leaving a lasting impression on all who witnessed it.

In addition to their win in the Dash‑8 pull, the Eager Beaver team demonstrated their strength in the semi‑truck pull, finishing with a commendable time of 13.39 seconds, earning them a well‑deserved second place in this challenging category. Their performance reinforced the importance of working together to achieve a common goal.

"Stepping out of the office and into the arena today reminded us that true impact happens when we come together as a team. It's not just about pulling planes or trucks; it's about pulling our community forward and making a difference together," said Major Justin Gardiner, Officer Commanding RPOD Winnipeg, and Eager Beaver team captain.

The funds raised during the Plane Pull support local charities and initiatives, enhancing the quality of life for those in need. The Eager Beaver team’s participation not only highlights the invaluable contributions of engineers in diverse fields, but also their dedication to community involvement – a source of pride for all.

In conclusion, the 2024 GCWCC Plane Pull was a resounding success for the Eager Beaver team, as they secured top positions in their events and contributed to a noble cause. Their achievements remind us of the strength found in teamwork, and their enthusiasm inspires all who wish to make a difference in their communities.
