RCA Band receives plaque to honour its drum majors

May 8, 2023 - Sgt Adrienne Lorway, Royal Canadian Artillery Band

The Royal Canadian Artillery Band (RCA Band) has been gifted a plaque to commemorate this history of its drum majors.

Current drum major Warrant Officer Benoit Parent commissioned the Plaque for the Drum Major of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery after being inspired during the RCA Band’s numerous taskings to perform in the United Kingdom. When walking down the halls of the band’s barracks overseas, WO Parent took note of the many plaques and photos hanging on the walls.

“They take great pride in their work and take care to preserve the history of their drum majors so that the lineage is maintained for future generations,” he explained, adding it was a tradition he thought he could bring back to Canada and use to instill pride in future generations of RCA Band drum majors.

With that idea in mind, WO Parent set out to commission the Plaque for the Drum Major of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery.

The plaque will be inscribed with the names of past and future RCA Band drum majors in order to commemorate their accomplishments and honour the role’s traditions.

The plaque will be on display in the RCA Band building for all members to see.
