June 17, 2016 – Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec – Department of Finance Canada
The Government believes that a strengthened middle class means that hard-working Canadians can look forward to a good standard of living and a better future for their children. When you have an economy that works for the middle class, you have a country that works for everyone.
François-Philippe Champagne, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, and Peter Schiefke, Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil-Soulanges and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister (Youth), today met with members of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss the Government's commitment to grow the middle class, and make strategic, targeted investments to ensure Canada's long-term economic growth.
Parliamentary Secretary Champagne highlighted the Government's historic plan to invest more than $120 billion in infrastructure over the next 10 years—investments that will create a more modern, cleaner economy, a more inclusive society, and a country better positioned to compete globally.
The Parliamentary Secretary promoted the importance of business investment in research and development as the Government further develops strategies for long-term economic growth. He emphasized the need for innovation in the public and private sectors as part of the Government's overall growth strategy.
Parliamentary Secretary Champagne also committed to working with the provinces and territories to help facilitate the transition to a cleaner economy and ensure the creation of quality jobs in rural areas.
