Vocational training
CORCAN works with operational sites to facilitate and coordinate delivery of a variety of vocational training initiatives and certificates to offenders across Canada.
Vocational training provides offenders with third-party-recognized achievements and certificates that are industry-recognized. These can be stand alone or incorporated with on-the-job training opportunities. Vocational certificates prepare offenders for employment while providing:
- technical
- essential, and/or
- transferable skills
Offenders may apply these skills to specific industries, or more generally in the workplace.
Areas of training
Community partners, such as educational facilities and private contractors, provide offenders recognized vocational training in many areas. These include:
- construction skills and general labour
- food services including culinary arts and food preparation
- health and safety
- horticulture
- building maintenance
- commercial cleaning
- basic computer skills
- auto body repair and vehicle maintenance
- customer service
- nail technician and hair stylist
- agricultural and environmental
