Lockdown at Dorchester Penitentiary – Minimum security unit

January 20, 2018 – Dorchester, New Brunswick – Correctional Service Canada

On January 18, 2018, at approximately 4 p.m., a lockdown was put in place at Dorchester Penitentiary, a multi-level security federal institution, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) staff.

The safety and security of the institution is CSC’s primary concern. Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so.

To improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, CSC will continue to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and take the appropriate measures.
