What is the CSC Museum?
The CSC Museum, located in Kingston, Ontario, houses a fascinating collection of artifacts relative to all aspects of correctional history in Canada.
Contraband weapons and escape paraphernalia reflect inmate ingenuity and resourcefulness. Early punishment and restraint equipment show the methods that have been used to keep order and discipline in our institutions. Inmate hobby crafts show the lighter side of life in prison.
As the museum expands, new exhibits will portray life in prison today. Displays will trace the flow of offenders from arrival to discharge, and will illustrate the various programs that are available to them.
Where is the Museum?
The CSC Museum is housed in "Cedarhedge", the former warden's residence, of Kingston Penitentiary, at 555 King Street West, in Kingston, Ontario. Built by inmate labour between 1871 and 1873, the building is a fine example of Victorian architecture.
