Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: July 16, 2024

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

This week, I wanted to tell you about a couple of notable dates.

Wednesday, July 17 is World Day for International Justice, observed around the world to recognize the international criminal justice system and promote the rights of victims, which encourages us to reflect.

Thursday, July 18, is Nelson Mandela International Day, marked around the world to promote humane prison conditions, to raise awareness that prisoners are an important part of society, and to value the work of prison staff. Mr. Mandela is known for his efforts to promote human rights, equality, democracy, and peace.

You may be interested to know that we have recently publicly released our first-ever Audit of Organizational Culture.  The audit told us more about the challenges we face and what is working well and will guide us to strengthen our organization.

As we continue to make positive changes, know that there are dedicated CSC employees around you and behind the scenes who love and believe in the work they do.

“Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.” —Nelson Mandela
