Commissioner's update for offenders and their families:
February 5, 2024

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

Saturday, February 10 marks Lunar New Year. This event is celebrated by billions of people from many cultures around the world, including Chinese, South Korean, Vietnamese, Singaporean, Malaysian, Filipino and Indonesian.  In Chinese culture, this Saturday marks the start of year of the dragon.

February is Psychology Month. It gives us a chance each year to talk about the role psychologists play in our lives. Psychologists play a key role in providing and supporting mental health services. Psychologists are part of our health care teams at CSC and are great resources for support.

If you need support or mental health care, please know that CSC’s health service professionals are available at all institutions. You can access these resources by submitting a request for services or by talking to a staff member. Please do not hesitate to reach out for services.

Black History Month poster

We have recently seen serious incidents involving drugs laced with other toxic substances. These can be extremely dangerous and can lead to tragic consequences. Your health and safety are a priority and we ask that you please be careful. We have a range of health services available to you to help with problematic substance use as well as substance use programming. Speak to your parole officer or a health care professional for more information on what’s available at your institution.

If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.  — Booker T. Washington
