Commissioner's update for offenders and their families: October 10, 2023

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

We recently celebrated Thanksgiving. I hope you had a chance to reflect on what you are grateful for and reach out to your loved ones.

Every fall, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) participates along with other federal departments in the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC). Through the GCWCC, CSC employees raise money in support of the United Way, medical health and research organizations, and other registered Canadian charities.

The GCWCC team would like to raise money for charity by selling holiday cards that feature artwork contributed by many of you from various institutions. We would like to invite you to contribute to this effort.

If you are interested in contributing your talents for a good cause, the team welcomes festive sketches, drawings, or paintings. Please note that the finished cards will be approximately 4.5 by 5.5 inches. I encourage you to mail your artwork to the following address by Tuesday, October 24, 2023 to:

Communications & Engagement Sector
340 Laurier Avenue West
Ottawa, Ontario
K1P 5K3

Please note that your artistic submissions are purely on a voluntary basis. We will select artwork that will be featured on the holiday cards. Your time and dedication to this initiative is much appreciated.

The week of October 8 to14 is Fire Prevention Week in Canada. Knowing what to do in the event of a fire is important. Familiarize yourself with the fire safety plan in your unit and follow instructions from staff in the event of an emergency.

Life imposes things on you that you can’t control, but you still have the choice of how you’re going to live through this. —Celine Dion
