Auditor General of Canada tabled Fall 2023 reports

Today the Auditor General of Canada tabled her Fall 2023 reports. One report, titled, “Inclusion in the Workplace for Racialized Employees,” looked at six departments to find out if they’ve demonstrated progress towards eliminating barriers experienced by racialized employees, as well as in developing an inclusive organizational culture. This included our organization.

While the report acknowledged many steps we have taken to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace, the findings show that there is still much work to be done. The report made several recommendations to help departments with their work and emphasized the need for better use of data and research to inform equity and inclusion strategies and complaint mechanisms.

In addition, the report recommended that organizations more consistently use performance agreements for executives, managers, and supervisors to set expectations for desired behaviours as a way to foster inclusion and create accountability for change. I was pleased to see the Auditor General highlight that 89% of CSC’s performance agreements for non-executive managers included objectives related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, the highest rating among the six departments.

Moving forward, we will continue to work with our employee and partners to implement the report’s recommendations.

I am proud of the work our organization has done over the last several years to advance anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion in our workplace. To this end, this week we published our 2021 to 2023 progress report on anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion at CSC. I invite you to read our progress report to learn more about the concrete actions we have taken so far to improve inclusion in the workplace.

We are steadfast in our commitment to ensure that our workplace is inclusive and diverse, and that requires to help of each and everyone of you. Together, we can help pave the way forward and make positive changes.
