Competition Bureau invites feedback on changes to the Textile Labelling and Advertising Regulations

News release

August 31, 2020 - GATINEAU, QC - Competition Bureau

The Competition Bureau is inviting feedback on proposed changes to the Textile Labelling and Advertising Regulations (TLAR), which relate to upholstered and stuffed articles.

The proposed changes are intended to simplify the labelling of upholstered and stuffed articles and provide greater clarity for businesses.

Interested parties are invited to submit their views on the proposed amendments no later than October 29, 2020 by completing an online feedback form, or by sending comments to cpb.consultations.dgpc@canada.ca.

Responses will be posted on the Bureau’s website, unless it is specifically requested that they be kept confidential.

Quick facts

  • Under the TLAR, dealers have to label products that contain filling or stuffing. The Guide to the labelling of stuffed or filled textile articles helps dealers understand their labelling obligations under the Textile Labelling Act (TLA) and TLAR.

  • The requirements under the TLA and the TLAR help consumers choose products based on their needs and protect them against misleading representations.
