Canada Games — Hosting Program

The Canada Games component of the Hosting Program provides funding to organizations that are duly incorporated for the staging of the Games (known as Host Societies or Organizing Committees).

The country's largest domestic multisport event, the Canada Games are held at two-year intervals, alternating between winter and summer. We collaborate with the host municipal or regional and provincial/territorial governments to financially support each edition of the Games.

We do not provide any deficit guarantees or deficit funding.

Who can apply

Eligible recipients are organizations that are incorporated as non-profit corporations under federal or provincial/territorial law and created specifically to organize the Canada Games.

Eligibility for funding is based on a federal-provincial/territorial hosting rotation and a bid process, typically run by the Canada Games Council or the host provincial/territorial government. The level of federal funding is based on a federal-provincial/territorial framework.

In addition, through an agreement with provincial/territorial governments, we provide funding for the travel costs of participants in the Canada Games, except those of the host province/territory. This funding from the Hosting Program is provided to the Canada Games Council, which manages Canada Games participant travel.
