Ice Sculpture: Enduring symbols of Métis heritage
Description
This ice sculpture by carvers Marie-Line Gagné and Isabelle Gasse pays homage to the Metis Nation. The fiddle and sash are key symbols of Métis culture, representing tradition, identity, and resilience. Fiddle music blends Indigenous and European styles, creating a distinct Métis sound for storytelling and jigging. The sash, worn as a belt or scarf, secured clothing, provided warmth, and carried loads. It also served as rope, thread, or a washcloth, reflecting Métis heritage and adaptability. Presented by Tim Hortons.
