Ministers Qualtrough and Beech to reveal the name of the new Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel at Vancouver Shipyards

Vancouver, British Columbia – On Saturday, August 17 2024, the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Physical Activity, and the Honourable Terry Beech, Minister of Citizens’ Services, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, will be joined by George Berthe of Makivvik, at Vancouver Shipyards, to unveil the name of the Canadian Coast Guard’s Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel, and celebrate its launch.

Members of the Naalak Nappaaluk family will be in attendance to commemorate his name being chosen for the vessel.

Media will be invited to a photo-op followed by a question period with Ministers Qualtrough and Beech.

Media can park at the main Seaspan parking lot and obtain a guest pass at the check-in table that will be located at the entrance to the shipyard near 50 Pemberton.

The event will be outdoors. Footwear must be closed toe. Flat-soled waterproof footwear is recommended.

Time: Arrival time 8:00 am PST (local time). Event begins at 8:30 a.m. PST.

Location: Seaspan Shipyards Operations Center,
                 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
