Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign November 2023 Newsletter

Colleagues,

By making a donation through the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC), public servants help thousands of organizations who are dedicated to helping Canadians get the support they need across the country.

We participate in the campaign because we care about our families, our neighbours, our communities. The GCWCC matters and our contributions make a difference!

Thank you for your support

Quiz for a Cause – DM Trivia Challenge

GCWCC's fun-filled DM Trivia Challenge is almost here. Teams have registered to participate in the ultimate Trivia Challenge. There's still time to register a departmental team and support fundraising efforts. Reach out to the Chair's Office for questions.

The final round event will be webcast live on Tuesday, November 21, at 1 pm (ET). We invite all teams to share the link to register within their organizations.

We have a great program prepared, including a montage of teams playing the first part of the trivia game. Tune in to see if you can spot your team members! Audience members will also get a behind the scenes look at the lighter side of senior leaders as they put their trivia knowledge to the test, compete for the title of Trivia Master while raising funds to support communities across the country.

Walk Run Roll

Thank you for moving for what matters and for your generosity.

Together, we raised more than $27,300. The House of Commons collected the most funds with more than $5,600. Donations support local charitable organizations across the country.

What a great way to engage in the campaign!

Canvassing Tips – Remember to ask!

Did you know the number one reason people don't give is because they weren't asked? Help your campaign succeed by canvassing.

Here are a few tips:

  • Explain why the campaign matters and use impact stories to speak to the programs and services the GCWCC supports.
  • Ask every person at least once. People give to people, so having direct contact with a potential donor is the best way to secure a donation.
  • Take the opportunity to include the "ask" in events and activities.
  • Thank colleagues for their time regardless of their decision.
  • Keep the conversation going! If they say yes, let them know the impact of their donation.

#GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is a day when charities, companies, and individuals around the world rally for their favourite causes, creating the biggest individual giving day of the year. In 2022, public servants raised $609,000 to support their local communities across the country.

This year, #GivingTuesday is on November 28. At the mid-point in the campaign, it's the ideal opportunity to shine a light on the collective generosity of employees and complete a major push for donations to the campaign. To support your communications efforts, the #GivingTuesday toolkit is now available.

On this #GivingTuesday, we count on you to engage with and remind colleagues of the options they have to support their local communities through the GCWCC.

GCWCC vExpo

The GCWCC's vExpo platform had more than 11,000 views, and close to 900 visits to its kiosks alone. Curious about what is available? Explore the GCWCC vExpo kiosks to source best practices, key messages and more!

United Way funding supports an Indigenous Mental Health Program

In its first year of operation, Mashkiwizii Manido Project supported 202 people. Along with more funding from United Way Centraide to help with one-on-one counselling, the program has recently received additional funding that will allow them to hire staff, creating jobs for urban Indigenous people in the area.

Thanks to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Karen's autonomy dream was granted

Karen had a dream: to be able to get to the grocery store on her own whenever she needed groceries.

She phoned the local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada for help; it came in the form of a scooter. "Remember the feeling you had when you learned how to drive? You could go wherever and whenever you wanted without asking anybody to take you. That's what I had." Read more here.
