The modernized Sainte-Aurélie border crossing is the product of innovative practices

·         The design of the new border crossing focuses on flexibility and responds to the reality of the operational environment.

·         The site is equipped with both detention and weapons areas, and allows for processing travellers remotely by telephone.

·         Off-site construction made it possible to deliver the buildings more quickly and the construction method minimized operational impacts.

Design objectives

·         The design of the port of entry results from a detailed analysis of Canada Border Services Agency’s functional and operational requirements (CBSA).

·         The size of the building is adapted to the traffic

·         The port of entry is optimized for its primary function: processing travellers

·         The primary inspection line is equipped with a booth

·         The site is equipped with a secure closed secondary inspection garage

·         The infrastructure is designed to adapt to future technologies and potential growth.

Green features

·         Oversized windows for abundant natural light

·         High performance wall and roof insulation

·         All mechanical and electronic equipment is 100% electrical

·         The buildings have net zero carbon emissions and are equipped with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems as well as high-performance heat recover ventilators (HRV)

·         Sustainable materials:

o   Responsibly sourced flooring (Polyflor), containing 25% recycled materials, 100% recyclable

o   Slatpanel ceiling panels

o   All wooden materials are from FSC© certified sources

o   Acoustic felt made from recycled plastic

·         Future electric vehicle charging station capacity
