Government of Canada supports upgrades to Acadia laboratory to increase capacity, streamline processes

December 13, 2024 · Wolfville, Nova Scotia · Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)

Businesses in Atlantic Canada thrive when they have the resources they need to succeed. The Government of Canada is investing to upgrade and expand an agri-foods analytical lab in Wolfville, which provides vital testing and quality control services for the region’s growing wine, craft beverage and food industries.

Business of analytics

Today, Kody Blois, Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants, announced a non-repayable contribution of $411,434 to the Acadia Laboratory for Agri-Food and Beverage (ALAB). The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.

This investment will support the purchase of specialized testing equipment, expanding ALAB’s capacity for ISO-accredited analytical testing. The contribution will also support a marketing plan and digitization upgrades to streamline the process for ordering lab tests. Together, these improvements will allow ALAB to offer its analytics and quality control testing services to the other Atlantic provinces - making it easier for beverage producers throughout the region to meet government regulations and export requirements.

This announcement further demonstrates the Government of Canada’s commitment to help businesses expand, support strategic industry infrastructure and bring quality products to market faster.
