Weymouth Company Crafts Sustainable Solutions to Increase Exports

News release

Lewis Mouldings & Wood Specialties Limited will purchase new technology to keep products competitive and profitable

April 3, 2018 – Weymouth, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Working with rural-based Atlantic Canadian businesses to modernize and expand eco-friendly operations plays an important role in diversifying the region’s economy, making it possible to develop new markets while maintaining well-paying jobs. That is why the Government of Canada is supporting Lewis Mouldings & Wood Specialties Limited to secure the equipment required to increase production of its value-added wood products.

Today Colin Fraser, Member of Parliament for West Nova, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced a $430,000 repayable contribution, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, that will allow Lewis Mouldings & Wood Specialties Limited to make technology upgrades that will improve overall plant efficiency and safety. The Farm Credit Corporation provided $430,000 for this project, as well.

With this support, Lewis Mouldings & Wood Specialties will purchase a high-speed moulder and modernize its current bricker and dust collection systems. Once the project is complete, Lewis Mouldings & Wood Specialties Limited will be well positioned to meet the increasing demand for its speciality wood products, allowing the company to grow and reach new markets.

This project builds on the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces’ commitment to drive economic growth in Atlantic Canada through the Atlantic Growth Strategy. The strategy involves targeted actions to support the scaling-up and modernization of rural-based businesses, which are key to Atlantic Canada’s economic diversification and growth.
