Government of Canada invests close to $94,000 to strengthen Irish Loop Region’s tourism industry
July 22, 2017 – Ferryland, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Building on the historic and cultural significance of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Irish Loop Region, the Government of Canada is investing in the Southern Shore Folk Arts Council (SSFAC) to upgrade the Regional Arts Centre in Ferryland. Tourism is one of the main economic generators in this region, creating opportunities for business growth and meaningful employment for Canada’s middle class.
Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) announced today that the Government of Canada, through ACOA, is investing $93,244.
With this investment, the SSFAC will undertake enhancements to the Regional Arts Centre’s grounds and park area, resulting in improved parking, increased comfort for visitors and enhanced overall aesthetics to ensure this facility mirrors the quality of other tourism establishments in the area. The upgrades will also lead to increased opportunities for cooperative programming and experiential tourism packaging.
The SSFAC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving, promoting and advancing the unique culture and arts community of the Irish Loop Region. It owns and maintains heritage properties in the area and hosts several popular cultural events, including the Southern Shore Dinner Theatre and the Annual Southern Shore Shamrock Folk Festival.
