Honorary Colonel Stuart Murray

HCol Stuart Murray, President & CEO of The City of Human Rights Education, was appointed as Honorary Colonel of 17 Wing, in Winnipeg MB, in January 2018.

Honorary Colonel Murray was born in Lestock, SK and studied Science at University of Manitoba, Architectural Drafting at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and earned a Diploma in Architectural Science from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute.

Preceding his current employment, HCol Murray served as the inaugural President & CEO of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Prior to joining the CMHR, he enjoyed a number of years in politics including serving as leader of a political party in Manitoba, Canada and being twice elected to the province’s legislature. Before being elected to public office, he served as the Tour Director to Canada’s prime minister and was President & CEO of Domo, a Western Canadian gasoline company with some 80 retail outlets.

An active member of the arts and cultural sector his entire career, HCol Murray was tour manager of one of the most successful rock and roll acts of the 1970’s and served as media director of a national opera company.

HCol Murray has received the Order of the Buffalo and both the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals, commemorative awards honouring significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
