5 Wing Chief Warrant Officer

MWO Mooney was born in London, Ontario in 1978. Upon his father’s retirement from the Regular Force, he spent most of his school years in Halifax, Nova Scotia. MWO Mooney is married and has two children.

MWO Mooney enrolled in the Canadian Forces Reserves in 1995 as an Intelligence Operator at 3 Intelligence Company, Halifax. During his time as an Intelligence Operator he was deployed to Bosnia on two separate occasions.

In March 2004, MWO Mooney completed a component transfer to the Regular Force as an Avionics Technician. In 2006, after the completion of his QL3 in Borden, Ontario, he was posted to 14 Wing Greenwood. He was assigned to 14 Air Maintenance Squadron (AMS) Aircraft Maintenance Organization, where he worked as a Navigation Technician on the CP-140 Aurora, performing 1st line maintenance. In June 2009 he was promoted to Master Corporal and posted to another 1st line aircraft maintenance crew as an Avionics Systems Supervisor. While serving with 14 AMS, he took part in several deployments including Op CARIBBE and Op MOBILE.

In 2012 he was promoted to Sergeant and posted to Canadian Forces Base Borden to take the year-long French course. Upon completion of the course in 2013, he was posted to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Academy as Directing Staff for the Primary Leadership Qualification. In 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer and posted to 14 AMS Greenwood and in 2017 was employed as the Fleet Deputy Engineering Project Officer. In the spring of 2018, MWO Mooney was selected to take part in the RCAF United Kingdom Public Duties Air Task Force, representing both the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCAF on an international stage, conducting ceremonial guard drill for the Queen in London. In 2019, MWO Mooney was deployed with the Tactical Airlift Detachment Senegal in support of Op PRESENCE in Mali.

He was promoted to his current rank in 2020 and employed as the 14 AMS Aircraft Maintenance Support Organization’s Superintendent.

On 2 July 2021, MWO Mooney was posted to 5 Wing Goose Bay as the Wing Chief Warrant Officer and is very much looking forward to enjoying all of which Labrador has to offer.
