The Parole Board of Canada (PBC) is an independent administrative tribunal and part of the Public Safety portfolio within the Government of Canada.

PBC employees are made up of both Board Members (Governor in Council appointees) who render decisions on conditional release and pardons, and Public Service employees who are responsible for corporate functions in such areas as policy, operations, planning, research, appeals, pardons and clemency, professional development and training, human resources, communications, and support for decision-making.
Our Board Members and Public Service employees work out of the PBC's National Office in Ottawa, as well as in regional officesof the PBC across Canada.

Board Members
The Board Members of the Parole Board of Canada are the primary decision-makers in conditional release decisions. Their task is always challenging. They are required to make decisions that are consistent with the protection of society and that are limited to only what is necessary and proportionate to the purpose of conditional release. They do this by conducting a thorough assessment of the offender's risk to the community.
