Every year, we take a week to celebrate the rights and responsibilities shared by all Canadian citizens. During Citizenship Week, Canadians across the country and around the world show their pride in their history, culture, achievements and shared citizenship.

Welcome new citizens

Attend an in-person citizenship ceremony
Successful citizenship applicants become new citizens when they take the oath of citizenship at ceremonies across the country. Most are open to the public. Welcome new Canadians by attending a ceremony!

Become a Canadian citizen
If you’re a permanent resident (PR), you should consider becoming a part of the Canadian family!
- With a Canadian passport, you can visit 188 countries without a visa (data as of May 2024).
- You can shape the future of Canada at the federal, provincial or municipal level by
- voting in an election
- running as a political candidate
- Once you become a Canadian citizen, you don't need to renew your PR Card!

You can use these messages:
- To [organization name, city name, etc.], being a Canadian means [add your thoughts about what being a Canadian means to your organization or city]. Join us by celebrating #CitizenshipWeek, May 13 to 19!
- Being a Canadian means [talk about your exciting journey to citizenship or what now being a Canadian means to you or your family, or share photos of you at your citizenship ceremony or engaging in your community]. #MyCitizenship
- At [organization name, city name, etc.], we support new Canadian citizens by [give examples of services your organization or city provides, events it hosts, or stories about new citizens succeeding after they used your services]. #CitizenshipWeek
If your message has a link, make sure the message is no more than 256 characters long before the link. For example:
“[Your message followed by ‘Learn more: ’ maximum 256 characters + link]”.
Don’t change the Government of Canada wordmark
Our social media image has the Government of Canada wordmark:
You must not crop, modify or remove it from the image.
Share in both official languages
