Brush up Canada! National Dental Hygienist Week takes place from April 5 - 11
National Dental Hygienist Week (NDHW) recognizes the important role almost 27,000 dental hygienists play in helping Canadians maintain good oral health. The week's theme, "Oral Health for Total Health," reminds us that taking care of our mouth, teeth and gums has positive impacts on our overall health and well-being because they are directly linked.
Dental Hygienists are responsible for more than just helping you clean your teeth. They offer preventative and therapeutic oral health care to Canadians. They are trained healthcare professionals who want to help people build a foundation for a healthy, happy smile for life. To achieve this goal they work diligently to educate and empower Canadians of all ages to embrace their oral health.
Canadians are encouraged to celebrate NDHW by making oral hygiene a priority in their daily life. To keep your teeth healthy, remember to brush, floss, eat a healthy diet, eliminate tobacco use and see a dental professional regularly.
As Minister of Health, I would like to mark National Dental Hygienist Week by recognizing the important role dental hygienists play as partners in prevention. Canadians can participate in NDHW activities including community events, classroom presentations, displays, tours of dental offices, a national coloring contest and much more. To obtain resources or information on activities please visit the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association website.
