When We Train
September to June:

The South Alberta Light Horse (SALH) is a Primary Reserve armoured unit of the Canadian Armed Forces. The SALH are part of 41 Canadian Brigade Group in Alberta, with Headquarters Squadron and B Squadron located at Brigadier James Curry Jefferson Building in Edmonton, A Squadron located in Medicine Hat at Lt-Col M.E. Patterson Armoury and in Lethbridge at Vimy Ridge Armoury.
The South Alberta Light Horse history includes service from predecessor units in 1885 during the North West Rebellion, the First World War, the Second World War and many international and domestic operations since 1954.
As a Primary Reserve unit, service is voluntary and is for an indefinite period of time. Reservists are enrolled to serve on a part-time basis but they may volunteer for full-time employment in the Canadian Forces. While serving in a reserve unit, most reservists have full-time careers in a wide range of civilian occupations or are full-time students.
When you join our unit, you will receive competitive pay for your part time or full time work as well as be eligible for on the job training that could benefit you in civilian life. Also, there are medical, dental and educational benefits available to Army Reservists.
